Staying Connected …A Time to Volunteer.
Approaching a New Academic Year …and New Opportunities.
A successful annual meeting …and on to a redesigned journal and a new year!
Welcome to Digital Networking! One of the reasons you joined CSE is to grow your network and use it to gain knowledge and make contacts. While the Annual Meeting is an absolutely fabulous place to do some serious face-to-face networking, today I want to talk about digital networking.
Tune in! Let’s talk about webinars. People I talk to seem to either love webinars or loathe webinars. In my shop, we love them!
Spring Really Is Coming – A few weeks ago, a rodent popped out of its burrow and with it came a message that spring is right around the corner.
We’ve made it past the end-of-year holidays and are now in that productive time of year when we have to catch up on all the things we put off until “after the holidays.”
Happy Holidays from CSE!
I am all about looking forward these days. I am also all about solving problems instead of just complaining about them. It feels like we can sometimes get stuck in the “that’s not how it’s done” mentality. It’s time to look forward.
Technical and Copy Editors Wanted! The Council of Science Editors has a very long history of including copy editors and technical editors among our members. While there are certainly other organizations that serve this core group, CSE affords them an opportunity to network and collaborate with science editors, managing editors, publishers, and publishing technology experts.
It is hard to believe that summer is already wrapping up. As I get my kids ready to go back to school, I have been following up on all the scribbles on business cards and notes tossed in my pocket from some of the great conversations I had at our Annual Meeting in May.
I feel very fortunate to come into the CSE Presidency at this particular time. As you have been hearing, the board spent a lot of time last year working out a strategic plan around communication, education, excellence, and global collaborations (to name a few).
To everything there is a season (turn, turn, turn). April not only brings the return of baseball, dandelions in the yard, and a steady diet of annual meetings and conferences – it’s also the time of year when we announce our newly elected members to the CSE Board of Directors.
In keeping with our mission to provide education and resources for editorial best practices, the 2015 CSE Webinar Series got off to a great start last week with the presentation “Prevention is Better than Retraction.”
To our snow-weary CSE colleagues in Boston and the rest of New England: hang in there, the first day of spring is less than six weeks away.
