As August turns to September, I’m thinking about all of the people who are going back to school- from the very earliest learners to graduate students.
Greetings from sunny Washington D.C., where life takes on a slower rhythm in the summertime. During this time, I enjoy many evenings on our deck, contemplating life and planning for the future. It’s so easy to get lost in the “what can we do” and overlook the “what is.”

I am all about looking forward these days. I am also all about solving problems instead of just complaining about them. It feels like we can sometimes get stuck in the “that’s not how it’s done” mentality. It’s time to look forward.
It is hard to believe that summer is already wrapping up. As I get my kids ready to go back to school, I have been following up on all the scribbles on business cards and notes tossed in my pocket from some of the great conversations I had at our Annual Meeting in May.
I feel very fortunate to come into the CSE Presidency at this particular time. As you have been hearing, the board spent a lot of time last year working out a strategic plan around communication, education, excellence, and global collaborations (to name a few).
In keeping with our mission to provide education and resources for editorial best practices, the 2015 CSE Webinar Series got off to a great start last week with the presentation “Prevention is Better than Retraction.”
To our snow-weary CSE colleagues in Boston and the rest of New England: hang in there, the first day of spring is less than six weeks away.
