Dear CSE Colleagues,
Tis the season to send and receive autoresponders. I hope you have a few days to relax as the year draws to a close. It has been a fantastically busy year for CSE including, but not limited to, Short Courses, the Annual Meeting, the Publication Certificate Program, and Webinars. If you were not part of the committees that help each of those initiatives take flight, make a resolution to include your voice among those helping maintain high standards in scholarly publishing by joining one of our committees. As always, the latest comings and goings are always available via social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and our listserv (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I hope you are already planning to attend the 2019 CSE Annual Meeting, May 4-7 in Columbus, OH. This week, the Exhibitor & Sponsorship Prospectus went out to previous partners, and if you haven’t seen the meeting graphic, check it out here! It simultaneously makes me smile, wish to congratulate the Program Co-Chairs Mary Billingsley and Shari Leventhal on their outstanding work, think pleasantly about May weather in Columbus, and remember I need to book a flight. Even if your organization isn’t planning to exhibit, there are a number of sponsorship options and a splendid graphic showing the types of decisions our attendees are involved in making (see page 4).
It won’t be long until CSE Members are asked to cast their votes for incoming Vice President, Secretary, and Director at Large. Keep an eye out and please be sure your vote is counted.
Wishing you all the best in the New Year!
As always, I value input from CSE members. If you have a question, suggestion, or a comment, please feel free to contact me.

Call for Ethics Case Studies in the Editorial Office
The CSE Webinar Sub-committee is planning a future webinar on ethics and author misconduct and we need your assistance. A gap exists in author awareness on editorial policies and while the industry is doing its best to bridge this gap, the things we see in our editorial offices run the gamut from undisclosed conflict of interests to self-plagiarism to copyright permission (unintentional or not). Have you recently experienced one of these issues, or another headache-inducing ethics case with authors? We’d love to hear your story!
How were you first alerted of the problem? What were your first steps? Which tools did you use (e.g. COPE flowcharts) to aid the process? How did you communicate with your authors? What was the outcome? Please submit your case study, including the fields below, to be considered as a potential speaker for this upcoming Webinar on ethics and author misconduct to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summary: (include how you were alerted to the problem, resources utilized, steps taken, etc.)
Welcome the Newest Members of CSE!
