CSE Members, I just returned from Brazil where President-Elect Angela Cochran and I presented talks on behalf of CSE at the Workshop de Editoração Cientíca in Campos do Jordão.
We were warmly welcomed by our colleagues from ABEC (Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors) and had productive discussions about partnering on some educational offerings for the 2015 meeting in Costão do Santinho. We also resolved to make a couple of changes to our certificate program that will make it logistically easier for editors outside the US and Canada. “Obrigado!” to CSE members and ABEC officers President Sigmar de Mello Rode and General Secretary Ana Marlene Freits de Morais for their efforts and a great conference. We look forward to seeing them and other ABEC members at the CSE annual meeting in Philadelphia in May.
Proposed New Vision and Mission Statements
Our recent strategic planning in September included a review of the current CSE vision and mission statements. Based on his experience with other associations, Kellen facilitator Rick Cristol suggested that the CSE vision statement should be an aspirational goal, expressing what the organization sees itself becoming. The mission statement is typically a short public-facing statement explaining why the association exists.
Following considerable discussion, the vision and mission statements were proposed and agreed to by the board, and will be sent out to the membership for a vote in the coming weeks:
- New vision statement: To be indispensable in the communication of science.
- New mission statement: To serve editorial professionals in the sciences by providing a network for career development, education, and resources for best practices.
