I hope your July is going well and has included a few moments of relaxation. Here in the Washington, DC area we’ve had sizzling temperatures and frequent reminders that conserving energy during the warmest times of the day is always appreciated.
It was fantastic to see 432 of you in New Orleans for the 2018 CSE Annual Meeting! Attending annual meetings remains my favorite way to learn about new initiatives and trends in our industry.

As 2014 prepares to make its exit from the stage and 2015 waits in the wings, I’d like to wish every one of you a warm holiday season, and a happy and prosperous new year.
It’s already been a couple of weeks since the Board of Directors met in Washington, DC but I’m still feeling inspired by the stimulating conversations we had and our collective excitement about the future of the organization.
A couple of weeks ago I was doing some research for an upcoming talk and started looking at past issues of Science Editor and CBE Views on the CSE website.
Henry James once said that the two most beautiful words in the English language are “summer afternoon.” Despite the fact that the temperature almost hit triple digits this week where I live, the spirit of this sentiment still has some resonance. Summer should be a time to kick back and relax a little.
