The Request for Proposal (RFP) process is the first step in forming a partnership that will benefit both you and your chosen vendor. Unfortunately, staff who are new to the process are often uninformed about what is expected of them, and don’t know how to get the most out of it. This webinar will cover the elements that should be included in an RFP to allow vendors to provide a competitive bid and types of questions to ask potential vendors to establish the best partnership according to your needs. We will also discuss when to issue an RFP, what absolutely must and must not be included in your RFP, how to set realistic timeframes, and how to choose the right vendor for your association. We will analyze this from the perspective of RFPs for publishers, online platforms, and manuscript submission and tracking systems.

Kathey Alexander established her publishing consulting business in 2001, after spending 20 years in medical publishing. Her background encompasses all aspects of commercial and society publishing and all forms of information delivery. Kathey was formerly Executive Vice President of Professional Medical Publishing at Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, where she was responsible for the medical book line, more than one hundred journals (proprietary and society owned) and controlled circulation newspapers. Kathey provides a broad range of services to professional and scholarly societies and associations, including: Strategic and operational audits to analyze performance of existing publishing programs; exploring new business opportunities; managing the society journal RFP process, from development of RFP through contract negotiation; managing the Editor-in-Chief search process; and serving as liaison between societies and their publishers.
