Durham Marriott City Center

Call for Session Proposals OPEN through September 30, 2025

Sessions should aim to serve those in the scientific publishing and information science communities. Each session should fit within at least one of the following broad categories: Editorial; Production; Business Operations and Management; ‎Career Development and Mentorship; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA); Scholarly Publishing Industry; Ethics; Policy; Leadership; or ‎Other. Based on feedback we received from CSE members and previous annual meeting attendees, for 2026 we are particularly interested in:

  • Sessions covering: environmental sustainability in publishing, marketing or promotions, and efforts to address peer review challenges and burnout

  • More diverse perspectives: sessions highlighting specific audience groups or perspectives, such as editor-only or researcher-only panels, early-career perspectives, or regional perspectives from outside of North America and Europe

  • Practical sessions featuring case studies and real life examples

CSE is interested in topics that are timely, practical, and relevant to the membership, and interactive sessions are strongly encouraged.

New ideas are always welcomed! We encourage  proposals from first time moderators (especially Early Careers or Editors), but we know this process can be  intimidating. This year, any first-time moderators will have the opportunity to be paired with an experienced moderator as a session coach!

Proposals should contain a specific description that includes clear learning objectives or takeaways for attendees. Suggested speakers should also be included; however, please note that you do not need to secure ‎speakers before submitting a session proposal. General suggestions such as “Managing Editor at society journal" or “Product Specialist at Company X” are sufficient. Submitters are encouraged to review the latest ‎CSE Annual MeetingVirtual Fall Symposiumwebinar series, and CSE Connect presentations to ensure the suggested topic has not recently been covered.

Please review the FAQ page and contact CSE with any questions.‎‎

Do you plan on attending CSE 2026? Are you interested in being a session speaker? This year, we are collecting interest from potential speakers and will be sharing the list with the Program Committee and our session moderators, as we work to design the programming for the annual meeting. Please complete this brief Call for Speakers form if you’d like to be added to the list.
