In an era of increasing scrutiny of research integrity, metadata has emerged as more than a technical necessity -- it is now a vital trust signal. Rich, structured metadata -- including author affiliations, funding disclosures, contributor roles, corrections and retractions, linked datasets, and more -- provides essential context that can help stakeholders assess the trustworthiness of scholarly outputs.
This webinar will explore how different stakeholders in the scholarly communications ecosystem are using metadata as a tool to assess, enhance, and communicate trust. From research institutions and libraries to publishers and infrastructure providers, the panel will discuss emerging metadata practices, tools, and policies that contribute to greater transparency and accountability in publishing.
Over 90 minutes, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the following:
-
Which metadata elements most effectively signal integrity and transparency
-
How metadata is currently being used in workflows to support peer review, curation, and discovery
-
Cross-sector challenges and opportunities in improving metadata quality and completeness
-
Future directions in metadata infrastructure that could further support research trustworthiness
Target Audience: Editorial professionals, publishers, librarians, research integrity officers, and anyone involved in research dissemination or metadata curation.
